Day 1
Oh, we're off to a good start! This is the smoothest plane ride I've ever been on. It's a great first experience for the kids. I'm sitting with the boys because neither one of them wants to sit by the window. Gene and Rachel are vying over their window, right in front of us. We munch on our breakfast, have a drink, and barely feel the plane land - 20 minutes early! The luggage comes out quickly, the rental car is waiting for us, and before we know it we're at All Star Sports. We have 2 rooms reserved in the football building. We're going to let the boys share a room and Rachel can stay in the other room with us. The rooms aren't ready yet, so let's hop on a bus...
And head to the Animal Kingdom. Ooh, look at the Christmas tree!
Stand under the tree, kids, I want to take your picture. Oh, we're off to a good start! This is the smoothest plane ride I've ever been on. It's a great first experience for the kids. Let's show Steve some of our favorite Animal Kingdom attractions. We'll start with Dinosaur, let's get on our time rover...
I'm so glad we were able to bring back the iguanadon. Now, let's take on Kali River Rapids! I love the theming as we make our way to the raft.
And then we're on our raft and we float off into the mist.
Ooh, the water's cold!
As long as we're in Asia, let's go on the Maharaja Jungle Trek. Beware of tigers!
Aren't they beautiful?!?!
Let's zip past the Tree of Life for now and get a fastpass for the Kilimanjaro Safaris. While we're waiting we can have lunch at Tusker House. I really like the atmosphere of this restaurant, both inside...
and out.
We finish lunch just in time to use our fastpasses and get right on the safari truck. All the animals are out in the open enjoying the sunshine. Let's say hello to some old friends...
Nala
 Pumbaa and Timon
Now let's walk over to Pangani Forest Exploration Trail to see my favorites, the gorillas. Now, don't rush me, I want to watch them for awhile. Oh, isn't he gorgeous?!
Are you ready to get a closer look at the Tree of Life? Let's go see It's Tough to be a Bug. We have great seats for the movie, right in the middle. Now we find out that Steve doesn't like 3D movies!
Well, it's 3:00 and our rooms are ready. Let's go check them out. I really like All Stars, I like the big icons and the bright colors. Did you know that the football field is made out of a rubbery material. It's a great place for kids to play.
Our rooms are connecting and there's plenty of room for five people.
Our plans are to spend the evening at Epcot and then wind up at the Boardwalk, so we drive over to the Boardwalk and park the car there. It's a quick boat ride to International Gateway and we enter the park just as Tapestry of Nations is ending, but I am able to get a couple of pictures. I love this parade. I've never seen anything like it in my life.
We're going to walk down to the United Kingdom. We haven't explored here very much. Oh, they're just starting a street show. It's A Christmas Carol. This guy is really funny - and he's teasing Justin mercilessly!
Steve takes French in school and he's eager to explore France. We have plenty of time before Tapestry of Nations starts again so we're going to sit down, relax and watch the movie, Impressions de France. It's a beautiful movie and we're grateful to be able to sit while watching it. Now we're going to work our way over to Morocco to get a good spot for the parade. Oh, wait a minute, there's a living statue. She just came out. Doesn't she look real?
She's very playful, but we have to get going.
I can't tell about the boys, but Rachel is really enjoying the parade. She's waving to the puppets and they're interacting with her.
Here's Beth and Rudy!!! Oh, I'm so glad to see them, it's been so long since we've been together. And I get a chance to meet their daughter, Liz, whose nickname is Timonrn. I wish we had more time to spend with them, but we have dinner reservations at Cape May Cafe and we have to get going. At least they can walk a little ways with us and we'll be getting together again in a couple days.
We're early for our reservations but they have a table for us. This is one of our favorite restaurants. I go just for the steamed clams. Afterwards we go back to Epcot and watch Illuminations, but we're all running out of steam. We've been up since 3:30 and it's been a great, but very long day. We walk over to the Boardwalk and spend a few minutes so that Justin can win a couple of stuffed animals at the game where you throw a softball into the milkcan. He's really good at it. I had to tell him to stop playing because we wouldn't have enough room in our suitcases. Then it's a quick ride back to All Stars and I think we all fall asleep as soon as our heads hit the pillow.
