Day 2 - 10/19
Today is the big day.... Happy Birthday, Gene! Today is also the day we move over to our 1-bedroom villa at the Beach Club Villas. We're going to pack up and head over as early as possible in hopes that the room will be ready.
No such luck, we're going to have to wait for our room. I sure hope it's ready before 4:00 because we have company coming over at 3:30!
We're not ready to get involved at a park, yet. We'd like to get settled in first. Why don't you join us at Downtown Disney? The first stop will be our new favorite store, Basin. We need to get some more soap and shampoo bars. We also want to wander through a couple of other stores, we're still looking for Birthday presents for Gene. We'll be coming back again sometime this week to do some Christmas shopping.
Now it's off to Disney Quest. We're going to play here until our room is ready and there's something for everyone. We have to do Pirates of the Caribbean before it gets crowded, but then we'll be splitting up. The kids love to play the video games, Gene is big on pinball and I'm heading upstairs to get some coffee and surf the internet and relax. Aw, here comes Gene to check up on me. I'm doing fine, why don't you call and see if our room is ready? Oh, it is? Let's go!
We'll be in villa 210, let's go check it out. Oh, this is great! I asked for a close room and this is right next to the Breezeway. The quiet pool is right outside our room and it's a short walk to the Beach Club.
You put the champagne in the fridge and I'll start to unpack. The dirty clothes can go right into the washer and that's about all the work we're doing for one day, because we're on vacation! The kids have already hooked up the Playstation to the tv in the living room, but I won't let them make a mess yet because we're having company in a couple of hours. Cathy and Michelle are coming over for sure and Donna might stop over a little later. I have just enough time to hop in the jacuzzi.
It's almost time. Cathy and Michelle are coming over, but we never did say where we were going to meet. The kids are going to stay here in the room while Gene and I go over to the Beach Club to wait in the lobby. I know the girls went to Epcot, so they should have to come through the lobby. I don't see them, do you? Of course, we've never met and that might have something to do with it. Oh, my phone is ringing...
"Hello."
"Laura?"
"Cathy?"
"Where are you?"
"I'm in the Beach Club lobby. Where are you?"
"We're in the villa lobby."
"Okay, we'll be over to get you."
So we rush over to the villas and look through the Breezeway and the Drawing Room and there's no one there. There goes my phone again...
"Where are you now?"
"I came over to the villas. Where are you."
"We're in some kind of lobby at the Beach Club."
"Hmmmm, we must have gone different ways and switched places."
So, I head outside to walk back to the Beach Club as I'm talking to Cathy and lo and behold, there they are, walking towards me while we're still talking. Time to hang up so we can all share some bear hugs. Isn't it just amazing to make such good friends over the internet?!
Come on up to the room. Take your time, check it out, and could you give me a hand opening the champagne? Oh, Michelle is going to handle it. Good job, Michelle, the cork didn't even fly across the room or hit the ceiling. :)
A couple glasses of champagne, lots of talking and laughing and the time flies by.
These two women are hysterical. They say the same things at the same time!
There goes my phone again. Oh, it's Donna. Come on over, Cathy and Michelle are here and we're just sitting around talking. Here she is. The boys are happy to join Justin and Rachel playing video games. Now Gene's real fun starts because he has all these kids to play with. They're all running around like maniacs and wrestling. Meanwhile, we now have 4 women talking and laughing at the same time. Gene said we made sounds he never heard before.
The afternoon ends all too soon and before I'm ready it's time for Michelle and Cathy to leave. Donna and the kids stay a little longer. I really enjoy watching Justin play with Ryan and seeing him be so gentle, just like his father played with him when he was young. Somehow Gene finds a few minutes to take a dip in the quiet pool, but then we all have to get ready to leave. It's time for Gene's Birthday dinner. So off we go...
...to California Grill. Not only do we enjoy the food, but the view can't be beat. They're holding Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party over at the Magic Kingdom and I made dinner reservations so that we could watch the fireworks from the restaurant. We've been here a couple times before, but we've never been out on the observation deck, so let's go check it out.
It's really nice out here, the view is great and everyone rushes out to watch the fireworks.
The meal is just as good as we expected and we even decide to get dessert. Even though I told them it was Gene's Birthday, the waitress forgot until she heard me mention it to Gene. Then she brought him a piece of chocolate that said, Happy Birthday, right before we left. I was a little disappointed that she didn't bring it as dessert, but she did remember in the end.
Gene claimed that he had a nice Birthday, even though we didn't go to a park. But you better get a good night's sleep because we're going to the Magic Kingdom first thing in the morning. Sleep well.
