Day 3 - 3/3
Good morning! We're up and Gene is cooking breakfast burritos. Help yourself. The kids want to loaf for a while and play video games, but Gene and I are going to drive over to Port Orleans French Quarter and Riverside to look around and take some pictures. We've stayed in the mansions at Riverside and really like the resort. It doesn't take me too long to explore and soon we're back and ready to drive over to the Animal Kingdom.
We usually go to the Animal Kingdom first thing in the morning, but we decided to go later today so we can see the parade. We've never seen it and we'd like to get some pictures. Oh, no, look at all the cars in the parking lot. This place is packed! We've decided that this is a mistake and we're going to the Magic Kingdom instead. It's not a long ride and the parking lot is no where near as crowded. Now, I've been coming to Disney World since 1972 and I've never ridden on the ferry that goes to the Magic Kingdom, so let's ride on it now. It will be leaving in just a few minutes.

And we're finally here - at the Magic Kingdom! Rachel wants to make a beeline for Splash Mt. Now, I don't know why we never figured this out in all our years at Walt Disney World, but Gene didn't notice until our last trip.... I don't even know if I should say anything and give everyone else a good idea.... but.... rather than run across the park to Splash Mt., we just hop on the train. The first stop drops us off right off at Splash Mt. Isn't that a great idea?! It sure is a lot easier. :) The line is very short. We strike up a conversation with a young couple from England and before we know it we're on the ride. Of course, we have to go in the Briar Patch shop afterwards.
Now we're going to head over to Liberty Square. The Share a Dream Come True Parade is going to start in about an hour and we've never seen it. It's not crowded, yet, and we're able to get the spot we want to watch the parade. Byron, a cast member who works at the Haunted Mansion, is in charge of crowd control and he's doing a great job! He manages to direct people, answer questions, and keep the children entertained at the same time. I always carry little toys to hand out to children and cast members and I give him one of my bouncy balls. He plays with it for a few minutes and then asks if I have two more. I tell him that I'll give him two more, but then he has to find two people to give them away to. He agrees, but first he juggles for all of us and gives a mini-lesson. He really made the hour pass quickly and gives the other two balls away just before the parade starts. And the parade is wonderful! I always say that I don't really care for parades, but I've loved every Disney parade I've ever seen.
We're right here at the Hall of Presidents, we might as well go in. Justin saw it with me on our last vacation, and he really liked it. Rachel doesn't want to go, but that's too bad. Sometimes my new camera does really well in low light with no flash, so I'm going to take some pictures and see if they turn out. Gene's going to film the show and see how well the new camcorder does in low light. My camera seems to do well right in front of us, but the pictures of the other side of the stage are dark and blurry. I guess I'll just have to sit on the other side next time. :)
Justin wasn't able to go to the shop inside the Castle one last time, so we're going over there next. Surprisingly, he doesn't find anything that he wants to buy, but at least he got to look around. We decide to window-shop our way down Main St. and then leave to go get dinner. Once again, we're going to take the ferry across to the Ticket and Transportation Center.
Then it's off to dinner at Boma at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. We've stayed at this resort a few times, but we've never eaten at Boma. I think it's time. Gene and Justin are more adventurous eaters and they're delighted with all of the new tastes. Rachel and I are much pickier eaters, but there's still plenty of different dishes for us to enjoy. It turns out to be a very nice meal and the service is excellent. A little walk around the lodge, and we're ready to call it a night. The kids want to play video games before falling asleep and I want to load all my pictures onto the laptop so that I can take even more tomorrow. Good night. :)
