Day 5 - 10/22
Up and at 'em! It's a new morning and we're off to Epcot. Justin and Rachel are going to run over and get Fast Passes for Mission: Space while we head for Test Track. We're going to split up and get in the single rider line so we don't have to wait as long. I can't believe how quickly the lines form for this attraction! I rode it once before and wasn't too thrilled (hey, I drive 60 mph every day!), but I really want to get some pictures inside, so I'll give it another shot. The single rider line works out great, the kids get to stay together and Gene and I get to stay together. The kids get to go first and then..... Test Track breaks down. Surprise, surprise. Fortunately, it's not a long wait, maybe 15-20 minutes. The kids are stuck in the ride during the breakdown, so they get to go again. We finally get on and make it all the way through with no mishaps. Did you like it? Do you really think of it as a thrill ride? I still didn't find it very thrilling.
But we're going to be thrilled now! It's time to do Mission: Space! Now, this is my kind of attraction! I'm in awe, from the minute I see the planets outside...
...to the gigantic gravity wheel...
...to the control center...
...to the pre-flight talk by Gary Sinise.
But my heart really starts beating faster when we enter our capsule.
Are you ready to go to Mars?
Strapped in tight? Take a look at your screen as we tilt back to prepare for lift-off. It's a beautiful, clear day. The sky is bright blue, with a few fluffy white clouds. We can see some birds flying overhead. 3 - 2 - 1... here we go! Up, up, up, past the birds, past the clouds... can you feel the pressure? Try to lift your feet off the floor or reach out your arms. The G's are so strong that we can barely move.
And then we reach space and all the G's are suddenly gone. We're weightless and you can feel it for a second or two. Isn't that great? We're well on our way. Now it's time to sling-shot around the Moon and the G's are strong again. Oh my, we get awfully close to the Moon, don't we. We'll be in hyper-sleep for a few months, but it feels instantaneous to us and there is the fourth planet of our solar system, Mars. Let's take her down.
Oh no, there's an unexpected group of asteroids. We hit one! We're going down! Time to grab the joystick and steer her in. Follow directions from the computer, you can do this. Sharp left! Okay, pull up! Pull up!!! Wow, that was close! Good job, we made it. Now that was a thrilling ride!
Before you exit the building, check out the Advanced Training Lab. There's plenty to see and do here, it's a worthwhile experience even for the people who choose to skip the ride. You might want to sent an electronic post card to a friend.
Just about the only way to improve on our morning so far is to have a drink of Beverly, so we make a beeline for Ice Station Cool. Actually, I think I'll pass on Beverly, since I have this delicious frozen Cappuccino from the Fountainview. Go ahead, help yourself. I'll just take some pictures while you get your drink. Isn't that tasty? :)
Now it's time to walk over to World Showcase. Justin has put in a special request for lunch, so we're heading over to Mexico. We're going to eat at the San Angel Inn, but we have a few minutes until our table is ready so we'll take a quick trip on El Rio del Tiempo, the River of Time.
It's a short ride, but just long enough. They're ready to seat us for lunch now.
We'll be sitting down in front, closest to the volcano. :)
Our lunch here is very good. Rachel and I get quesadillas, Justin opts for the nachos and Gene gets stuffed Poblano Peppers, that he says are excellent! I'm glad Justin picked this place.
It's time to head back to the BCV for our mid-day rest and relaxation. I think I'll play on the computer for a while, maybe even snooze for a little bit or read some of my book. We have plenty of time if you feel like swimming. Guess what the kids will be doing??? Yep, they're playing video games.
Are you all rested? Good, because we're outta here! We're off to Downtown Disney to make a quick stop at the Virgin Megastore, so Justin can spend some of his money. You can go in with him if you like, but we're going to wait in the car.
Now it's time to go back to the Magic Kingdom, but I want a few pictures of the Grand Floridian so we're going to valet park over there. We'll catch a monorail to the Magic Kingdom. If you've been reading these trip reports, you probably know us well enough to know that our first stop will be the Railroad. We're taking the train to Frontierland again. But no Splash Mt. this time, we're walking over to Pirates of the Caribbean. Yo Ho, Yo Ho, a pirate's life for me...
This is one attraction that never fails to put a smile on our faces. :)
But our main goal this evening is to see a couple of things we've never been before. Yep, as many times as we've been here, there are still new things to see and do. The kids are going off alone and we're going to look for a good spot to see Spectromagic. That's right, we've never seen Spectromagic before. We have plenty of time to find a good spot and strike up a conversation with some fellow guests.
Here it comes, Spectromagic!
This parade is beautiful! You might just want to click on the link to my Spectromagic pictures... they came out great, if I do say so myself. :) Don't forget to click on the link to the second page.
I'm so glad we saw this! But now we have to hurry. We have to rush back to the train station on Main St. That's where we decided to meet up with the kids to watch the new fireworks display, Wishes. It's a big hit!
Hope you liked it.
The park is closing now. We're taking a boat back to the Grand Floridian. Hold on a minute, I want to go in and take a few pictures of Narcoossee's.
All done... now we can go home. Put on your swimsuit, we're going for a quick dip. The hot tub is empty, let's go in for a while. Are you hungry? We're going to finish up the casserole that we brought from home, but there's plenty to go around.
It was a fun day all around, thanks for joining us. :) See you tomorrow.
