Kelly and Kitty were heading back home later today so they dropped off their luggage in our room for the day. From here, we had started the day off with a breakfast date with Jim at Whispering Canyon at the Wilderness Lodge. We were seated relatively quickly and Rebecca was our waitress…she turned out to be a hoot. Everyone opted for the all-you-can-eat skillet breakfast except Jim who had a western omelet with cheddar (or American cheese …as he was being difficult with his ordering). The skillet breakfast is very good and contains scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, waffles, biscuits, and gravy. Kelly decided to start her meal with your basic breakfast soda and Rebecca was a bit taken back by the interesting order. Well she brought out a giant mason jar full of soda which had to be about 48-64 ounces….not to mention a giant straw. It was funny as shit and I thought Kitty's eyes were going to pop out of her head when she saw it. Kitty had no idea about the playfulness of the people in the restaurant and got introduced rather quickly. Once the food came, we had Kitty ask for some ketchup and bam…next thing you know, Rebecca is shouting out that we need ketchup and 15 bottles appear in a matter of moments. Kitty was tickled `pink' and was really getting into the fun of the place. And if she thought that was fun, she was even more excited when she got a chance to take over our ketchup bottles when the next table wanted ketchup…she was beaming like a school kid and it was a lot of fun to watch. Overall, breakfast was very good and a lot of fun.
After breakfast, Jim headed out and Kelly & Kitty opted to do a resort tour for the morning. Laura and I went to ride the mini boats at WL and cruised around Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon for about 45 minutes… I have always loved to ride around in these boats and I was very happy Laura wanted to join me. We each got our own boat and headed out. We were able to cruise all around and Laura was even able to get some pics…surprising, I know! Afterwards, we headed on back to the Boardwalk and went swimming. Laura enjoyed a midday drink which quickly led to an early afternoon nap. I headed back out to the porch at the Boardwalk and promptly fell asleep there myself…I must have been quite a sight as I ended up there for about two hours…I am sure, snoring away. From here, I wandered into the lobby and decided to do one of my favorite things…people watching. Next thing I know, the people I am watching are Kelly and Kitty as Kelly was working out some dining issues with the concierge desk. We headed on back to our room and sat around for a little bit while Kelly & Kitty killed the last little bit of time they had before it was time to head to the airport. It was nice recapping the trip and getting to spend some more time with them before they had to go. But alas, it was time for them to leave…not to mention us, as we had to head on over to the Contemporary for dinner with Jim at one of our favorite restaurants, the California Grille.
We met Jim on the second floor at the sign-in desk for the restaurant and we were quickly escorted to the 15th floor restaurant. We were there as it was opening and sat down for a cocktail. Laura wandered all around and was able to get some excellent pictures of the restaurant; not to mention many of the surrounding resorts and parks that can be seen from this view. It was a good challenge for her new camera which judging by these pictures, it passed the test with flying colors. By the time our drinks arrived, our table was ready. The menu here is always different but the one thing that is always a constant, is the sushi…and that is one reason why I continue to return here…I love sushi. Laura ordered an artichoke & lobster salad along with a sun-dried tomato & basil flatbread. Jim had an asparagus salad which I had a taste and it was incredible…and he had the sushi sampler. I too had the sushi sampler and an arugula salad. I think everyone was very pleased with their meals. Dessert was tempting but we opted to be good and pass on it. Again, another wonderful meal here and I am sure we will be back.
After dinner, we headed back to the Boardwalk and we all headed over to EPCOT for one last time this trip. Jim and I decided to walk off dinner a bit and walked over while Laura hitched a ride on the boat. We basically just wandered slowly around World Showcase; starting in France and doing the full circle. It was just a leisurely walk as we wound down the week. This was it for us as tomorrow morning we would be out of the resort shortly after 6:00am for our flight home.
It was great to see some of our friends again and meet new ones; like Mitzi and Kitty. Hopefully we'll get to see them again…not to mention some of our other friends who could not make this trip. Another fun trip and now the long wait until December begins…until we get to make a lot more fun memories at WDW!
